Dangerous Liaisons

In 18th-century France, two aristocrats engage in a dangerous game of manipulation and seduction. As they target unsuspecting victims, their twisted desires lead to devastating consequences, exposing the depths of their immorality and leaving them morally bankrupt. "Les Liaisons Dangereuses" is a cautionary tale that explores the destructive power of manipulation and the fragile line between desire and morality.

Rating: NNNN (out of 5). Wren Theatre’s newest production, Dangerous Liaisons, is enticing, scintillating and artfully devious in all the best ways possible. And though you may vehemently disagree with the choices of its protagonists, you surely will understand them and grow to respect the tactfulness in their execution.

In our age of digital manipulation and virtual deceit, there’s something palate-cleansing about watching 18th-century French aristocrats weaponize real-world physical intimacy for sport. Welcome to Wren Theatre’s compelling, sexually charged new production of Dangerous Liaisons, in which Director Tatum Lee transforms the Annex Theatre’s spacious thrust stage into a deadly playground. Her nobles dance through dangerous games with practiced precision, bringing fresh relevance to Christopher Hampton’s 1985 adaptation of Pierre Choderlos de Laclos scandalous 1782 novel Les Liaisons dangereuses.

In a society where social status is everything, love and revenge are the currency of the day. Christopher Hampton’s Dangerous Liaisons, an adaptation of the novel by Pierre Choderlos de Laclos, shows high society unknowingly on the precipice of change. While pleasure and scandal are still the name of the game, La Marquise de Merteuil and Le Vicomte de Valmont are ready to have their fill. A feather in the cap of Tatum Lee’s directing career, Dangerous Liaisons will wrap you up in luxury and lasciviousness.
